Open letter to the residents of York Outer
Soon the local Labour party will have a choice in selecting the Labour Parliamentary candidate for York Outer. York Outer is a new constituency that includes areas on the periphery of York. But I don’t want the views of the residents of York Outer to be on the periphery, I want their views to be at the heart of political decision-making in this country. I want to live in a society where a person’s talents and hard work will determine where they get to in life and not the reverse. For these reasons, after thinking long and hard, I have humbly registered my interest to be chosen as Labour candidate for York Outer. I want to put York Outer residents first.
I do not believe I am your usual candidate. For a start I am young and good-looking (or so my girlfriend tells me). But in all seriousness I do not come from a political or establishment family and I am rather pleased that I don’t. I am an ordinary bloke. My Mother is a dinner lady and my adopted Father is a security guard. I work at York St John University and before that I was working in the Jessops camera store in town. My Grandmother used to warn me to keep my feet on the ground and I have tried to ever since.
I am a born campaigner and I have worked as a Labour campaigns manager. I anger at incompetence and injustice and campaign rigorously against both. However, I am not arrogant enough to believe that I have all the answers. I have my own views about the qualities and policies a successful Labour candidate for York Outer should have. I will soon be saying what these are. However, in the meantime I would like to listen to you, get to know you and learn about what you believe the qualities and policies are that a successful Labour candidate for York Outer should have. If you are interested please leave a comment below.
I hope to put some passion and excitement into the race to be the Labour candidate for York Outer. Given the chance I hope this passion and excitement will be used in the next general election to deliver me as the first MP for York Outer. It is up to the local Labour party to decide whether it is time for a new force in politics and whether it is time-4-change? Then hopefully York Outer residents will have that same choice.
